On January 27th, Sam Casey releases the second single and video from her forthcoming EP, More Songs About Weed And Toxic Relationships. Sam says that “I’m Fucking Sam is the real me introducing myself to the world. I can do the soft ballad, but it’s not WHO I AM. This is. I’m Fucking Sam talks about the pressures of any young adult who has recently left their safety net. It’s about dating the wrong guy, choosing the wrong friends, and learning about yourself through these negative experiences. I’m Fucking Sam illustrates the experience of being wanted/adored for what you can do for someone rather than who you really are. It also discusses the vices that we may fall back on when discovering these ugly realities for the first time. I’m Fucking Sam is a self-love anthem for those who have decided to say ‘screw it’ and let their freak flag fly. Lord knows I did and it tastes like fucking freedom.” The video is again produced by Moon Reel Media and directed by Agata Waclawska.

On November 4th, our boutique record label imprint, The Confidence Emperors, releases Good Fight, the new single and video from Sam Casey. It’s the first single from her new EP, More Songs About Weed And Toxic Relationships. The song was written by Sam, Mike Schlosser and Laurel Clouston, and produced by Mike. The video for the single was produced by Moon Reel Media, directed by Agata Waclawska and filmed by Alex Exists.
Sam says that “Good Fight was born out of a conversation between one of my co-writers on this song, Laurel Clouston, and myself. We were simply shooting the shit in our producer’s home studio about the abundance of female musicians and the polarizing lack of females we had personally seen in positions of power/management positions, as well as the pressure to “look” like an artist rather than just be an artist. We were and are very cognizant of the vast improvements for women in the entertainment industry over the past few decades, and we spoke about certain women who have become decision-makers for themselves such as Rihanna, Maggie Rogers, and Beyoncé.”

I’d Rather Go Blind is the debut single and video for Toronto based artist Sam Casey. “I have been performing this song for years in venues around Toronto as it is one of my favourite songs and lyrically hits me at my core. To be able to record an original rendition of the track that fits my exact feelings when listening to the lyrics was a dream and a privilege. The feelings that emanate from this song are so human and deep inside that singing this can bring me to tears. I can only hope listeners will feel this same connection.” Since being introduced to us by mutual friend Kim Cooke of Revolution Recording, Sam has collaborated with UK producer/songwriter Joe Thompson, Canadian producer/songwriter Mike Schlosser (John Orpheus) and Martha Johnson and Mark Gane of Martha and the Muffins.

We have known Juliana Eye since she was a teenager. It has been amazing to watch her grow as a singer, songwriter, musician and producer since her early days in The Ruby Spirit and as an accompanist for Ghost Caravan. For the forthcoming COVERAMA album, she has recorded one of her favourite songs, Dreaming by Blondie. She has also collaborated with another former member of The Ruby Spirit, filmmaker Jason Cipparrone, who directed the cool black and white video that was shot in Juliana’s basement.
