Described by UK critics as “one of the most innovative of their era” and that “even to this day they sound brave and fresh”, Martha and the Muffins emerged from the early punk/new wave/art pop scene in 1977. The band was the first Canadian band to sign to a UK label and recorded their first album, Metro Music, at The Manor Studio near Oxford, England. After Echo Beach became a top ten single around the world in 1980 and earned them a Juno for Single of the Year, Martha and the Muffins toured extensively in Britain, Europe and North America. Since then, the band has released eight studio albums, three of which they co-produced with Daniel Lanois (U2, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel). A groundbreaking band since its formation, founding members Martha Johnson and Mark Gane recently went through their extensive archives to select twelve rare singles, B-sides and unreleased tracks for ‘Marthology: In And Outtakes.
“Martha and the Muffins have managed to last beyond the latest musical trends and, in the process, continue to offer us challenging new music." ~ Sunday Express
Odario is a storyteller, a hip-hop junkie and a lover of many musical soundscapes. He is embedded in the beat and submerged in the bass. His solo project expresses all of these qualities; tackling the many sides of "beat poetry". Odario is known for his work in Grand Analog (as songwriter and frontman). His distinctive voice and insightful lyrics have been part of the Grand Analog sound since its inception. As a performer and personality, Odario wears many hats and describes himself as a raconteur, an actor and a DJ. He’s currently hosting CBC Music’s Afterdark program. Odario has also been featured on a number of other artist’s tracks including the Halluci Nation single Ba Na Na with Haviah Mighty. He recently collaborated with Good Information, a jazz band with a “beat aesthetic”, and remixer Chaix on his solo single Do Nada.
“Funky, eclectic and conscious, Odario fuses hip-hop, blaxploitation funk and jazz into a seamlessly effervescent entity.” ~ Exclaim Magazine
Grand Analog is a group of record collectors, musicians and self-described beat junkies. You can easily find any of the GA crew DJing at various clubs around Toronto. The Grand Analog sound is a beautiful mess of rap 'n' roll, dub ‘n’ soul. Each personality in this collective brings something unique to the table. Odario and DJ Ofield blame their father, a reggae DJ from the 80s, for cursing them with the love of music, bass and trouble. Warren Bray is the secret sauce on bass, TJ Garcia sings and dances behind his drum kit and Aubrey McGhee is the sonic adventurer on saxophone – playing through a raft of effects pedals. The band’s critically acclaimed albums, EPs and singles boast an infectious array of soundscapes. Over the past fifteen years, Grand Analog has left its mark on audiences and listeners around the world.
Grand Analog continues to sweeten its hip-hop cocktail by spiking the punch with everything they can get their hands on.” ~Winnipeg Sun
